Steam and Lumber frame drums
'Art meets utility' is the underlying philosophy of Steam and Lumber. These lovingly hand-crafted drums use timbers such as Pin-Oak and American Cherry and a range of Australian timbers such as Blackwood, Huon Pine and King Billy Pine. Timbers are salvaged, milled, seasoned and bent using traditional steam-bending methods before being crafted into world-class instruments. Steam and Lumber drums are crafted by instrument maker and musician, Matt Stonehouse who is always looking to marry this ancient instrument with modern designs and possibilities. Check out available drums or discuss a custom instrument with Matt that you will cherish for many years to come.
“This will transform the drumming community more than any dvd, book or workshop series could ever do, and I've purchased every dvd, book and attended every workshop in the USA at one point or another.”
— Andrew DesChenes
