Hey, guys, I am Yasha, from Ukraine, I fall in love with percussion up to 15 years ago, actually never learning and practicing seriusly. In the beginning I just took a few lessons from my friends and plaid for myself from time to time. Also keeping simple rythms on capoeira lessons more often, as part of my capoeira curve. During last years I have been playing really occasionally, like a few times per year:) I will be glad to improve my skills here:) Right now my level can be described as follows: * I can hold the rythm of a song, while others singing and playing other instruments, with occasional failures if my attention was attracted by something from outer space:) * I am good at extracting good sound from my dums/taks/kas/slaps/rolls but they might be not consistent during all the song I accompany to... * I can hold rythms like malfuf almost at any 4 bit song, I mean even if the singing phrase will have different accents:) * But holding rhytms variations like malfuf + kahleegi, or variation that Matt gave in the end of "Back to basics: pulse" might be difficult for me... * I can play things like 5/8, 9/8, but improwising during them is pretty difficult, except putting rolls before dums/taks. * I would like to mix turkish and african style:) Yet I fail to play 8, 9/8 and then find a place to put more than 1 triplet in a raw when improvising... * I can play simple rolls pretty fast, but don't have skills of "turkish fingers technique" that I like to gain:) Actually despite dums, teks, kas, slaps, kas after slap hold, and simple rolls - I don't know anything else:) So I have a question, where should I start first among materials available here? from the very beginning? Any other recomendations? :) Thanks in forward!
