Many thanks Darbukaddict! By the way, I've seen your great video playing the maqsum with Savvas fish skin. how did you get it? through him directly? I contacted him on FB and realised the only way for payment is Western Union transfer to Greece - which is not my preferred way of buying staff online.. how was your experience?
Thanks again and great weekend

Hello Sherif. I contacted him via facebook too throughtout all the 2019 year. We exchanged many conversations as i am very meticulous on chosing the right darbuka. I got my darbuka from him directly. For me too the western union transfer to greece was not a nice option but i did it. It was a good experience for me though but i would prefer to pay via paypal instead of western union because the paypal payment you can made it everywhere whereas the western union transfer you have to go at the western union office to do the transaction. I received my darbuka in 3 to 4 weeks i think. I am satisfied with savvas. He gaves me advice on how to heat the skin etc. The only thing which i don`t like is the darbuka case which for me i think could be better like that what you have when buying from sonika percussions. Overall i am very satisfied with savvas.

So good to see old and new faces appearing/ reappearing.
I have been enjoying the April Darbuka Challenge; in case some of you were unaware, I have been streaming live 30 minute practice sessions via the 'Fingers of Fury online drumming community' Facebook page. It is at 10am each morning in Melbourne, Australia (That is around 7pm New York). The live stream remains on the page for others to join in when they get the chance.
Drop in and say HI when you can, it's been really nice to 'hangout' with a group of like minded drummers each day.
I'm thinking some live streamed frame drum classes will be next.
On another note: It seems there is no possibility of simply replying individually to someone in the forum; these threads could become awfully long! There also no edit button....grrrrrr.
PS. Welcome Sherif! Enjoy;)

Hi everyone. I'm Ali from Brisbane, Australia. I first joined FoF back in 2011 and it was here on the FoF forum that I met a few local drummers who introduced me to everyone I now know in the Australian ME music/dance scene. I've been playing steadily over the years but not really pushing myself enough to get to an advanced level. (I'm no surfer. :-) ) The live Facebook darbuka and frame drum challenges have given me a huge boost so I'm really excited to be back and I'm ready to really give myself a nudge and break through some barriers.

That sounds great Ali.
So happy that you enjoyed the online challenges. I did too. I think we all needed a little 'socialising' and drumming together.
They should probably consider doing something online for this years MEDAM camp.
I would like to organise another challenge on this site soon- it may be another July Darbuka Challenge! That could be fun....and challenging.

Hello everyone,
Greetings from Wales. I bought my darbuka while I was studying at University, but never really learned how to do anything with it. That was about 9 years ago. Roughly 5 years ago I bought a frame drum and joined FoF with the intention of learning both darbuka and frame drum. What I didn't know at the time was that my computer related repetitive strain injury would prevent me from giving these instruments a go for years to come. Luckily I no longer work with computers and my injuries have healed as a result.
I have spent the past few years playing in a semi-successful rock band, and a hip hop band also. Incorporating various world instruments into both these bands has been really fun and I am keen to do more.
I also travel a lot, and occasionally need to get by from income made through busking. Up until now I have played either cajon or bongos with a guitar player, but now I am looking into the possibility of busking on my own using a frame drum.
It's a pleasure to meet you all :)

Hello everyone,
My name is Aleksandar, I'm from Serbia and I've started playing the darbuka about a month and a half ago. As many here, I was also "playing the table" with my fingers for years so that brought me to the real thing :)
Guess I'll have to activate my Facebook in order to check out those live session, but the time difference is huge (+8 hours!).
Looking forward to learning with everyone here!
