Hand made drums by Quentin Shaw
Quentin started making these wonderful pieces of rhythmical art at the age of 15 when he would skin buckets, pots or bins. He has obviously come a long way! After taking some development tips from drummers such as Najib Bahri from Tunisia, Numan Eyler from Turkey and NY drummer Raquy he was able to create what we see today.
The process of making these is quite different to other drums played today. In Quentin's own words, 'I design it first in drawing then in card then cut it up and stencil it onto a sheet of metal. Then i cut it up and bend each one of the pieces. After this I hammer finish and weld the pieces together before reforming them with the hammer to smooth them out.' Once this is complete Quentin then uses a natural skin to finish the drum.
