July Darbuka Challenge
Hello and welcome to Day 6 of the JDC. There is no need for a sound file today. I think that we should all just keep on doing exactly as we were doing. I am seeing that quite a few drummers are having breakthroughs in their playing and are finding some new 'uncharted' musical territory. I am getting emails and can clearly see in the forum that the 'theme' of the challenge thus far has been focusing on direction. What a difference it seems to be making!
Some drummers are simply finding music 'out there' and jamming along with it for their hours practice. I know from my own experiences that ANYTHING could come from this. At any time during this 'jam' an amazing, inspirational idea could pop to mind. There are many amongst us that are not from a 'Darbuka culture' (I am from Australia!) and are always searching for that something different to play. It is a real search that leads us to a place we probably never new existed. THAT is what I love about this journey.
Have a wonderful Day 6 and I look forward to sharing some new ideas along with charts on Day 7.
Before i go i should tell you, The Rhythmic East is premiering this Sunday in my hometown of Melbourne. Each night leading up to this event I have been having the strangest of dreams related to it! I am standing there trying to say my 'speach' but nobody can hear me, there's not enough seats for everyone or as last nights dream went, the theatre owner came in and stopped the film because everyone was getting to excited. Funny how the mind works. I wouldn't say I am nervous but I am definitely entering uncharted waters...
